NATIONAL GUARD RECRUITING & RETENTION MARATHON PROGRAM
The mission of the National Guard Recruiting and Retention Marathon Program is to utilize members of the “All Guard” Marathon Team to promote the National Guard, and to enhance and increase its strength. The Marathon Program will work with the National Guard Recruiting and Retention Force at both local and national levels to promote the Army and Air National Guard, and the Military Competitions Programs. The Marathon Program will encourage and enhance the National Guard Retention Program by instilling physical fitness, self-discipline, and esprit de corps amount National Guard members from all fifty-four states and territories. The Marathon Program will provide the quality of life and better well being for soldiers and airmen of both the Army and Air National Guard.
ALL GUARD TEAM
The Lincoln National Guard Marathon, Lincoln, NE which is the 1st Sunday of May is the qualifier for the All Guard Team. To qualify for the All Guard Team, men must finish in the top 40 of all National Guard and Air Guard male runners. Women must be within the top 15 of all National Guard and Air Guard female runners.
The All Guard Team serves as a platform to promote the National Guard and Air Guard in a positive and professional manner, and to enhance both Recruiting and Retention. Each runner must complete a minimum of five duties with their local Recruiting and Retention force. These duties are not limited to major recruiting events, but can also be retention duties as well. Many of the duties can be accomplished during weekend IDT’s (i.e. instructing fitness classes, etc.)
SOUTH DAKOTA NATIONAL GUARD MARATHON TEAM
The South Dakota National Guard Marathon Team serves as a platform to promote the National Guard and Air Guard in a positive and professional manner, and to enhance both Recruiting and Retention.
Requirement is to complete a sanctioned marathon within the past 18 months. Qualifying times must be submitted to be considered for the team. To be funded by NGB, yearly requirements will be furnished in the January time-frame. To be considered on the State Team funding will be determined by guidelines provided by J-3.
For FY09, NGB will be sponsoring a “Rookie” class. It is designed to sponsor a new Soldier an opportunity to experience a marathon and to experience the National Guard Marathon Team. Determination will be determined on running experience and ways to spread the Guard story.
ARMY TEN MILER
The Army Ten Miler is held the 1st Sunday of October in Washington, DC. This is a prestigious event that runs through the heart of Washington, DC. It is a program to enhance the South Dakota National Guard Marathon Team.
the requirement is to complete a 10 miler, ½ marathon or full marathon in the past 12 months. The tie breaker will be what type of Recruiting and Retention support you have provided in the past 12 months.
Teams and funding will be determined by the J-3.
